Air Force Boxing Announces Exciting 2006-07 Schedule

The Falcons return three national champions to the 2006-07 roster.

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With three returning national champions on the roster and 11 home contests planned, the Air Force boxing team announces an exciting schedule of events for the upcoming season. Included in their slate for the Upper Boxing Room is a face-off with service academy rival Navy and the preliminary rounds of the annual Wing Open tournament.
The Falcons get down to business on Oct. 6, hosting the Midshipmen at 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym. One week later (Oct. 13), Air Force opens the first of six rounds of Friday Night Fights. Closing out the first month of competition, several Falcons will travel to Detroit, Mich., for the annual service academy showdown with Army and Navy on Oct. 27.
Air Force and Army meet up again the following week (Nov. 3), as the Falcons travel to West Point, N.Y., for a dual-meet showdown that coincides with the Air Force-Army football game. Air Force returns to the Academy on Nov. 17 for another round of Friday Night Fights, before several boxers travel to New York City on Nov. 20 for a meeting with programs from around the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA).

Two rounds of Friday Night Fights close out the fall semester, as the Falcons toe the line with one another on Dec. 1 and Dec. 8. Air Force returns to the ring on Jan. 12 another round of inter-squad showdowns. The Falcons will close out Friday Night Fights on Jan. 19.
Head coach Eddie Weichers and the Air Force boxers head to Seattle, Wash. (Jan. 27) and Reno, Nev. (Feb. 2) for a pair of contests against NCBA opponents.

Air Force returns to the Academy on Feb. 8 with the preliminary round of Wing Open Tournament action. The quarterfinal (Feb. 15) and semifinal (Feb. 21) rounds of action pare down the contenders until just 24 remain to face off at the annual Wing Open Finals. The championship round, which will be held in Clune Arena on Mar. 2, will determine the "Dirty Dozen" that will represent the Academy at the NCBA regional and national championships.

The Falcons, who had won 26 straight regional titles until a second-place showing last year, look to regain the title at the NCBA Western Regional Championships, which will be held in Reno, Nev., on Mar. 22-24. From there, Air Force will head to the NCBA National Championships (Apr. 5-7). Over the last 27 years, the Falcons have claimed 18 national titles, while producing 96 national champions and 258 All-Americans.
